Okay, my wife says that I’m reliving past glory. Or that I’m caught up in the Olympic Fever. Whatever it is – the fact is, my weight has gone up and fitness level have gone down. 6 years (and 40 lbs) ago – at about this time of the year – I competed in the Ironman Triathlon in Lake Placid, New York. For those of you who don’t know, the Ironman consists of a 2.2 mile swim, a 180 mile bike and then wrap it up with a 26.2 mile marathon. I completed the event in 16 hours.
So why am I blogging this now?? Well I don’t really have any Ironman aspirations (yet), but I do want to get my butt back into shape, so I’ve just started running. I wouldn’t really call it running, but I am moving. So tonight I did my first serious run in almost 6 years – just a little over 7 kms. I actually suprised myself and was able to run all of the course, but my legs were killing me. Aerobically, I could have ran for a lot longer, but my legs just couldn’t do it.
Now, because I’m a total gearhead, I got all “Apple’d” up with my iPod and Nike+, so now everyone will see and check my progress. Hopefully this will be an added incentive to keep me motivated!! Anyone care to join me…
I know I have a photo somewhere of my Ironman finish, I’ll post it as soon as I find it.
